KADRI MANJUNATHA TEMPLE MANGALORE

Kick start your gratifying one day Mangalore local tour by private cab with the visit to the Kadri Manjunath Temple. A fascinating place to visit with its spellbinding hilly backdrop enshrines Lord Manjunatha, a manifestation of Lord Shiva. One of the oldest temples in South India located on the Kadri hills is believed to have been built in the 10th or the 11th century.

Kadri means plantain as the place is carpeted with plantain trees everywhere it is called as Kadri. It is believed that the place was first inhabited by the Buddhist and later a new religious form called Natha Pantha became more dominant. Lord Shiva was the principal deity worshipped by the followers of Natha Pantha who were called as Jogis and their monasteries were known as Jogi Mutt.

Kadarika was another ancient name associated with the place as depicted by the inscriptions on the pedestal of Lord Lokeshwara’s idol. Legends state that Lord Shiva pleased with Parashurama’s penance appeared as Lord Manjunatha at Kadri along with his consort Goddess Parvati and stayed here for the welfare of the people. Sapthakoti mantras were then transformed as seven holy ponds.

Interesting features of the sacred place is the spring that emerges at the backside of the temple known as Gomukha.

There are several caverns in the hills at Kadri which are popular as Pandava caves. Devotees are delighted to visit the holy temple of Goddess Durga in the west and Lord Vinayaka in the north.

I recently booked a bus from Mangalore Travels Corporation for a group trip of 16 people during our visit, and I must say the entire experience turned out to be much better than expected. When you’re coordinating travel for a large group, there’s always a bit of concern about comfort, timing, and overall service—but everything was handled very smoothly. The bus provided was clean, spacious, and well-maintained, which made a big difference for all of us, especially since we were traveling together for multiple stops. The seating was comfortable, and the journey felt relaxed rather than tiring. A special mention goes to the driver, who truly made the experience even better. He was extremely professional, punctual, and polite from the very beginning. He arrived on time near our hotel every single time, which really helped us stay on schedule without any stress. What stood out the most was his helpful and accommodating nature—he took us wherever we requested without any hesitation and was always approachable whenever we needed anything. It felt less like a formal service and more like traveling with someone who genuinely wanted us to have a good experience. He also drove very safely and responsibly, which gave all of us peace of mind throughout the trip. For a group journey, that level of reliability is really important. Overall, the service was seamless, dependable, and very well-organized. I’m really glad we chose Mangalore Travels Corporation, and I would highly recommend them to anyone planning group travel. I would definitely consider booking with them again in the future.
